Quick answers about Inklyng. For step-by-step help, see the guides and support.

What is Inklyng?

Inklyng is an app and web service that turns a screen you already own into a calm, always-on display. It works on an iPad, an Apple TV, a smart TV, a computer monitor, an Amazon Fire tablet or Fire TV Stick, and color e-ink panels. It can show your photos, the weather, the Earth, stock prices, text and a split-flap message board, taking turns in a playlist.

Is there an Inklyng app for iPad?

Yes. Inklyng for iPad is a free app you download from the Apple App Store. It runs natively on any iPad with iPadOS 17 or later. Older iPads that cannot update can still show Inklyng in Safari.

Is there an app for Apple TV?

Yes. Open the App Store on your Apple TV, search for Inklyng and choose Get. The app shows a 6-digit code. In your Inklyng account choose Add display, then Apple TV, and type the code. The code expires after 30 minutes; reopening the app shows a new one. It works on Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD, and fills the whole screen, sharp on 4K sets.

Can I use an old iPad or TV as a digital photo frame?

Yes. Add your photos from a phone or computer, crop each one for portrait or landscape, and choose to shuffle or show them in order. Inklyng works on an old iPad, an Apple TV, a TV, a computer monitor or an e-ink display. You can also mix photos with weather and other screens in one playlist.

Which devices does Inklyng work with?

Apple TV 4K and HD (with the Inklyng app), every iPad with iPadOS 17 or later, from the mini to the 13-inch Pro (with the free Inklyng app from the Apple App Store; older iPads can use Safari), Amazon Fire tablets and Fire TV Sticks, smart TVs, computers, Chromebooks and any monitor with an HDMI port. Anything that can open a web page works, and the M5Stack M5PaperColor is supported as a color e-ink display.

How do I set up a display?

Create an account, choose Add display, and pick what you have. Connect it with a link, a QR code or a six-character code typed at inklyng.app/go. A code works once and expires after 5 minutes. Setup takes about two minutes.

What can Inklyng show?

Weather with a sky that matches the real conditions, hourly and weekly forecasts and a radar loop; an Earth view lit by the sun's true position; stock price charts and a scrolling ticker; your photos; your own text in any font and color; and a split-flap message board with emoji, colors and schedules.

What is the message board?

A split-flap emulator. You type a note and every letter flips into place on a board of tiles, like the departure boards in old train stations and airports. You can add emoji, choose colors, schedule a message for later, or ask for three rewordings of what you wrote.

Does Inklyng cost anything?

Your first month is free, with no card needed: one display, a few photos and a few AI credits, and no special hardware. After that, Starter is $25 a year or $3 a month for the same thing. Plus and Premium add more displays, photos, AI credits and faster screen changes, and you save when you pay yearly. If you don't choose a plan when the free month ends, your displays pause and show a message until you do; nothing is deleted. You can cancel any time and keep your plan to the end of what you paid for. See the Pricing page for the details.

Can I show more than one thing on a display?

Yes. Every display has its own playlist. Choose which screens are in it and how long each stays, from a few minutes to fifteen, and the display moves through them on its own. You can also hold one screen all day or jump to one straight away.

Can I keep an iPad on Inklyng all day?

Yes. Open the Inklyng app and lock the iPad to it with Apple's Guided Access (Settings, Accessibility, Guided Access). Keep the iPad plugged in.

Does Inklyng sell my photos or messages?

No. There are no ads and no selling your information. Your messages, photos and places are used to draw your screens and nothing else. The Privacy Policy lists exactly what is collected and for how long.
