How to use a color e-ink display as a weather display
Add the Weather screen to the e-ink display's playlist, search for your city or ZIP code, choose units and a theme. If the display has its own sensor you can also show the temperature and humidity inside the room.
What you need
- A color e-ink display already set up with Inklyng
- A free Inklyng account
Steps
- Open the Weather screen. In Inklyng, choose the e-ink display and open its Weather screen.
- Set the location. Search for a city or ZIP code.
- Choose units and a theme. Pick Fahrenheit and mph or Celsius and km/h. On e-ink and small screens the theme setting controls the look.
- Show the room's temperature. If the display has a sensor, choose to show the temperature and humidity inside from the display's own sensor.
- Calibrate if needed. The sensor can read a little warm, especially while charging. Compare with a thermometer and adjust the offset.
- Save. Choose Save, then use Test screen on the display's page. A color e-ink redraw takes 10 to 20 seconds.
Tips
- E-ink only redraws when the picture changes, and checks in every few minutes on battery to save power, so weather updates are not instant.
- Light backgrounds show less ghosting than dark ones.
Questions
Does e-ink show radar?
Radar covers the continental United States. Elsewhere the screen shows the sun's path instead.
Why does the inside temperature read high?
The sensor can read a little warm, especially while charging. Use the calibration offset to match a thermometer.
