How to use an Amazon Fire TV Stick or Fire tablet as a display

Open the Silk browser on the Fire device, go to inklyng.app/go and type the six-character code from your Inklyng account. Plug the device in and turn the screensaver off so it stays on.

What you need

  • A Fire HD tablet or a Fire TV Stick
  • A free Inklyng account
  • A Wi-Fi connection

Steps

  1. Open Silk. Open the Silk web browser on the Fire device.
  2. Go to inklyng.app/go. On a Fire TV Stick, use the remote's on-screen keyboard, or ask Alexa to open the page.
  3. Get a code. On your phone or computer, open the display's Settings tab in Inklyng and copy its six-character code.
  4. Type the code. Enter it on the Fire device. A code works once and runs out after 5 minutes.
  5. Keep it on. On a Fire TV Stick, turn the screensaver off (Settings, Display & Sounds, Screensaver). On a Fire tablet, choose the longest screen timeout (Settings, Display). Menu names vary a little by model.

Tips

  • A Fire TV Stick also turns any HDMI monitor or TV into a display.
  • Plug the device in rather than running it on battery.

Questions

Do I need to install anything?

No. Both Fire tablets and Fire TV Sticks have the Silk browser, which is all Inklyng needs.

The screen says it can't reach Inklyng.

Check the Wi-Fi first. A browser screen retries by itself every 30 seconds, so it recovers when the network does.
