How to use a smart TV as a digital photo frame
Open the web browser on your smart TV, go to inklyng.app/go and type the six-character code from your Inklyng account. Add your photos and the TV shows them full screen, with nothing to install.
What you need
- A smart TV, or a TV with a streaming stick, that can open a web page
- A free Inklyng account
- A Wi-Fi connection
Steps
- Open the TV's web browser. Find the browser app on the TV and open it.
- Go to inklyng.app/go. Type the address with the TV remote. If typing is slow, a phone or keyboard paired with the TV can help.
- Get a code. On your phone or computer, log in to Inklyng, choose Add display and pick the display type. Copy the six-character code.
- Type the code on the TV. A code works once and expires after 5 minutes.
- Add your photos. Open the Photos screen and add pictures from your phone or computer. Crop them for landscape, since a TV is always wide.
- Keep the TV awake. Turn off the TV's sleep timer and screen saver in its settings. Menu names vary by brand.
Tips
- If your TV has no browser, an Apple TV with the Inklyng app or an Amazon Fire TV Stick plugged into its HDMI port does the same job.
- A browser display retries by itself every 30 seconds, so it recovers when the Wi-Fi does.
Questions
Does my TV need a special app?
No. Any TV that can open a web page can be a display.
Can I change the photos without touching the TV?
Yes. Change photos, order and timing from your phone or computer and the TV picks them up.
What if my TV has no browser?
Plug in an Amazon Fire TV Stick or use an Apple TV with the Inklyng app.
